Been told the 400 maybe isn't the best option and should try and fork (no pun intended) out for the newer 450, waddaya think?

I'm a Honda man myself...I've ridden all 3 brands and always came back to Big Red!! CR450X would be a good mix between dirt n road..KTM'S parts are too friggin expensive for me.. I have a CRF 450R- Motocross model , I haven't had to touch the valves\piston yet! Which ever you go with I'ld get the 450 model...mo powa!!

Mo Powa isn't always good depending on what kind of riding your doing. A lot o really fast woods riders rode 300's, 250's, 400's. KTM just came out with a new 4 stroke 350, which is supposed to be bad as hell. I just sold a 450XC which was awesome. But, I'm upgrading to a 2 stroke 300xc. I'm full fledged woods rider and I smoke yamaqueers all the time. The woods are ORANGE for a reason!

UH OH...Sounds like a challenge??.. lol... All I can say is we have to yell at all the old sqids on kabooms to stay in your line!!! and don't freak out while I was blowin past them!! Mo powa is always better...IF you can twist it!! OHHHH YEA...... KTM does make some cool sizes BUT Big Red has thee best! thenn comes Yamadog...then Sissyzuki...Kaboom is somewhere in there ! I call 'em Kabooms cause it was always breakin!!

I've had a ton of bikes, most of them yamaha's. My last mx bike was a yz450f, it was by far the baddest bike I've ever owned, it broke a few of my ribs, separated my right shoulder and gave me a serious concussion! I'm now a retired motocrosser, I bought a wr250x Supermoto a couple years ago, it was a fun bike but a real pooch! Yamaha needs to make a 450 Supermoto, i'de buy one tomorrow! I'm actually thinking of purchasing a ducati hypermoto, I'm done riding in the dirt can't afford to get hurt anymore.

To be honest you really can't go wrong with any bikes these days. I would get what you feel most comfortable on and what you will have the easiest time finding parts for (Honda/Yamaha IMO). Also if you want something you can make street legal I am pretty sure most the 450s won't fall into that category but I could be wrong as I am sure it varies from state to state. All in all the WR is not a bad choice...
